I agree with other reviewers- Sheridan was bratty and difficult to read. I understand that creative writing 101 tells us that the main character must grow throughout the story, but it also tells us that we need to like the main character. I really did not like this girl. I also found the plot to be a little thin. The ending fizzled. Nice premise and idea, but it just didn't deliver. ( ) I’m just going to start off by saying that I didn’t like Sheridan at all. I thought she was a whiney, spoiled brat that did so many stupid things that I just wanted to smack her. A lot. I tried to imagine how I would feel if I were her, and I wouldn’t dislike her as much for a few minutes but after a while, I just went back to wanting to smack her. With the being said, everything else was great. I honestly think this could have been a four star book. Other than my problem with Sheridan, I can’t think of anything bad about this book. It is well written and is entertaining. Would I recommend this book? Probably not. Unless you want a fast, decent read with a main character you want to hit all the time. The Sweetest Thing - Christina Mandelski This book was very enjoyable. I started and finished it all in one day. The main character,Sheridan Wells, a 15 year old cake decorator has to deal with the world changing around her, this is how she deals with it. Do I agree with it all? Absolutely not. Are all the loose ends tied up - not to my satisfaction. Did I enjoy this book - very much so, so much that I am already looking to see what else the author writes as she is a new author to me. How do you deal with life when it throws you a fast ball? Hopefully you ask God's to help you get through. This books suggestions that. This turned out to be a really cute book. A sweet, light read. Not too much in it that will shock you or make you think, but Sheridan's story is definitely relatable. And it has more heart than one might imagine. Sheridan's mom ran off years ago and the only thing that keeps her feeling connected to her is her love of decorating cakes, which her mom did before she left. Sheridan is determined to find her, convinced that her mother never wanted to leave and that if she finds her she can convince her to come home. Problem is Sheridan's dad has just been offered a cooking show in New York. Which means they have to move, something Sheridan is dead-set against, especially now that she's found a clue to her mother's whereabouts and there's a super-cute boy interested in her. And what story wouldn't be complete without an equally hot best friend who just happens to be harboring a secret crush on her. I don't have much to say on this one because there wasn't a whole lot to get angry or excited about. The Sweetest Thing is simply a funny, heart-warming, and sweet read. A little predictable at times, but seeing where things were going didn't detract from my overall enjoyment of the book. There's nothing that's going to make it stand out for me, but I think if you like sweet contemporaries with happy endings that you may enjoy this book. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
Fifteen-year-old Sheridan, a master cake-decorator like her mother, loves her small Michigan town so when her father announces they will move to New York City, where his dream of hosting a cooking show will come true, Sheridan fears for her budding romance and becomes desperate to contact her long-absent mother.
