The author of the book Crazy Sexy Cancer Tips takes on the crazy sexy subject of what and how we eat, drink, and think. Infused with sass, wit and advice from the trenches, this book is a resource that puts you on the fast track to health, happiness and physical fitness. Along with help from her posse of experts, the author lays out the fundamentals of her crazy sexy diet: a low-glycemic, vegetarian program that emphasizes balancing the pH of the body with lush whole and raw foods, nourishing organic green drinks, and scrumptious smoothies. Plus, she shares the steps of her own twenty one day cleanse, and simple but delectable sample recipes. In it she empowers readers to move from a state of constant bodily damage control to one of renewal and repair. In addition to debunking common diet myths and sharing vital tips on detoxifying our bodies and psyches, advice that draws both on her personal experience as a cancer survivor and that of experts, she provides helpful hints on natural personal care, how to stretch a dollar, navigate the grocery store, eating well on the run, and working through the inevitable pangs and cravings for your old not so healthy life.… (más)

I can't recommend this book highly enough. Thinking about the food we eat, in terms of the oxygen we're getting in our bodies, and our acid/alkaline pH balance is the key to health! ( )

Interesting book with some great recipes! ( )

Interesting arguments for vegetarianism. Pushed me to consider more vegetables in my diet and juicing. ( )

I loved that this book is so visually appealing - full color and nice layout. I liked all the different articles from various experts spread throughout the book. There was just tons of great information really, but I didn't give this book five stars because I felt like she just dumped all this information on the reader but then didn't provide him/her with a nice plan to implement all the suggestions in the book into his/her life, so I finished feeling not as empowered as she would like her readers to be, I think. I really would have rated this 3.5 stars, but I rounded up to 4 just because of the presentation and well-rounded approach to health here (diet, exercise, stress management/spiritual practice). I also think it's great that such a fun approach to health is used here; hopefully it will get more people into taking better care of themselves. Another reason I didn't leave this book feeling very inspired as some may be after reading is that I already have a health plan in place that is working for me right now, so I didn't really feel this great need to change my life and follow what she does. Maybe if I hit a plateau, I'll try more of her approach, but I'd probably be more likely to try Dr. Fuhrman's or Brendan Brazier's eating plans. ( )

Kris Carr's enthusiasm and love for her readers is certainly charming, and her vivacious personality really jumps off the page. Although I feel like a lot of the science is suspect - for example, the alkaline/acid health craze that she advocates is pretty much 100% bull - the overall theme of eat more veggies to boost your health is obviously spot on. As a vegan, the commentary on the cruelty of factory farming and slaughter didn't phase me, as I think it's something that should really be pointed out to anyone who eats meat (know where your food comes from!). I also enjoyed her holistic approach to health, peppering her 21-day cleanse with mantras, reminders to meditate and exercise, and other full-body aspects that most diet books don't touch on. ( )

For my talented husband, Brian, you are my North Star, my muse, and my mentor. Without your support (and brilliant edits) this book would still be in my head. Thank you for your endless guidance and for helping me become the woman I always wanted to be. I will love you unconditionally for many lifetimes.
