A true modern tome of natural magic (even with an autobiographical tale stapled on like the Solomonic and Faustian manuals of old) The back half is quite fun to flip through for a variety of psychological and chemical babble. Not to mention that Sasha comes off as nearly mad despite his high level of technical prowess. The front half (especially Ann's contributions) are exhaustively (and I mean to stress exhaustion very literally) psychological. We are treated to tiring and drawn-out analyses of bland social situations filled with slightly off-kilter personalities. Maybe something for fans of Flaubert. I flipped past most of this after realizing the unremitting flow of inane details and thoughts was not going to let up. ( )
