Fantasy. Fiction. HTML:Moon, once a solitary wanderer, has become consort to Jade, sister queen of the Indigo Cloud court. Together, they travel with their people on a pair of flying ships in hopes of finding a new home for their colony. Moon finally feels like heâ??s found a tribe where he belongs. But when the travelers reach the ancestral home of Indigo Cloud, shrouded within the trunk of a mountain-sized tree, they discover a blight infecting its core. Martha Wells is an excellent world builder. This is a fun setting (a world, on a leviathan!) and some interesting cultural clashes between the different groups in their world and a very nice metaphor about what different communities need to be sustainable and thrive. The Rift plot didn't work that well for me, and I wish there were more development of many of the metaplot questions raised in the first book. Solid 3.5 stars ( )

Another excellent entry in this amazing series! The plot was excellent, the new cast was wonderful, and the new world building was great! It still gives me big "Gargoyles" the animated TV comic series vibes.

I continued to love Stone and Moon's relationship, Moon and Chime's relationship, Moon and Jade's relationship, and Moon and Balm's relationship, just all the different character relationships were lovely. Moon is still an amazing protagonist with lots of pain and attempts at learning and fitting in while sticking to his beliefs. He's compassionate and capable, and really enjoyable to explore the world through.

Perhaps my only criticism of this book is that it's much less queer than book 1. Book 1 wasn't the queerest story outside of having a queer protagonist who is interested in both men and women, and has had at least one sexual encounter with a man in the past, but it was still much queerer than Book 2, which is disappointing. Moon is still a queer character, and his relationship with Chime seems highly suggestive, still, particularly in that Chime is a favorite of HIS, not Jade's. A male consort also shows interest in Moon that's quite cute, but even Moon downplays it as "he likely had no one new to talk to for a while" (which you can of course read as part of Moon's low self-esteem rather than reality, but well...). But that's about it in terms of queerness.

I already started reading book 3, and look forward to the rest!

Minor comment: if you want more books by Martha Wells while waiting on the latest Murderbot, skip Ile-Rein, read this series. It's far better. ( )

Im still fascinated by the world setting and the raksura.

I just felt the plot meandered a bit at times.Henche the two star rating.

And then the relationship between Jade and Moon...well Jade scolded Moon...and they had some sex.And that was it.

Sure they had scenes when they were loving and caring too,but I detected a pattern. Moon would do something "non-raksuran",Jade would dissapprove.Moon would feel unsure about her feelings and they would make up again. I think this happened at least three times in the book. It got old really fast.

And what happened with the fell? I mean they were defeated in the last book. But it was as they vanished from face of the earth.

Also I really want to know what court Moon came from...Like right now :0

Second book in the series about shape-shifting dragons in a slightly steampunky world. Our hero from the first series must try and retrieve a crucial item from the groundlings (ie humans). Decent enough, but I don't quite grasp the enthusiasm that some people clearly feel for the series. ( )

Really enjoyed a world where the populations are diverse as heck, and the stories were excellent as well. ( )
