As a child growing up in California during the Great Depression, he picked produce with his family. Cesar saw firsthand how unfairly workers were treated. As an adult, he organized farmworkers into unions and argued for better pay and fair working conditions. He was jailed for his efforts, but he never stopped urging people to stand up for their rights. This is a good book if you're looking for the facts of Cesar Chavez. It takes readers from his early life as a child, through his civil rights fight, and to his death. This book teaches children, through the life of Chavez, that inequality should never be tolerated. He is a great example of selflessness to make a better life for others. It's important for children to read stories like his, knowing there were others who fought for civil rights other than Martin Luther King, and it wasn't just black Americans that were discriminated. Cesar Chavez was born on March 31,1927. The Chavez family were farmers. His family traveled to different farms in search for work. Cesar attended 65 elementary schools. Cesar was bilingual, but his native language was Spanish. Cesar fluently spoke Spanish at home, but he would get hit if he spoke his native language at school. Cesar grew up during the great depression and he enlisted in the U. S. Navy to support his family. Cesar seen segregation first hand while he was enlisted. Cesar was arrested for not following segregation rules. Cesar felt segregation was wrong. After he had forcefully been segregated by police this ignited the activist in Cesar. Cesar also met a man named Fred Ross that changed his life forever. Cesar fought for every American farmer by boycotting, fasting, and growing his audience. Eventually, farmers received higher wages, better health care protection, and etc. Cesar Chavez biography is significant because it tells accurate information, however, it does not go into to much detail. The book is a good informative read that tells the important information that is needed. It also tells how the farmers association came to be. Cesar Chavez was an amazing activist that believed in non violent protest in order to fight for farmers rights . The organization of the biography is well organized from the beginning to the end. The book also include a timeline to additionally show the readers a organized list of the event that had taken place through out Cesar's life. I enjoyed the read and was informed about a lot of new information that I did not know. This book is about the activist Cesar Chavez who stood up for his people to feed them and give them a better life. He wanted to do what was right. He was treated unfairly and wanted to fight for justice. He made a huge difference in his country and changed it for the better. I liked the pictures in this book. They were a great reflection of their reality. A great book about labor leader and activist, Cesar Chavez. As a child, he was treated unfairly as a farmworker. Even in school, his teacher beat him if he spoke Spanish. He knew he had to do something about it. He stood up for what was right and fought for higher pay for the people who worked hard to put food on other people's tables. The overall theme is to stand up for your rights and what you believe in. No dream is ever too small. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
