Katie Woods never thought that she'd be forty-one, divorced, and thrust back into the dating world. To start fresh, Katie uproots her veterinary practice to upstate New York-not exactly the hottest dating scene on the planet. But when an unconscious cougar appears at her clinic, Katie's newly single life gets a much needed jolt of the supernatural kind. After Katie examines the cougar and leaves him caged overnight, she's shocked to find a big strapping specimen of young, hot man in its place. And when the scratch she got during the exam results in some unnatural side effects, Katie has more to deal with than her animal attraction to a much younger guy-she has to figure how to stop herself from becoming a cougar of the four-legged variety.… (más)

It used the word "husked," and not while talking about corn, either. Adverbs are our friends, people! 'Said huskily' is about a million times less wrong. ( )

This series started off as funny with a entertaining approach to the paranormal world. Now at book 5, I'm finding it formulaic. And worse, I found the story rather chaotic and choppy. While the book started off with the main characters of the series - Wanda, Nina, and Marty (although Marty wasn't around much for this book) - starting on the OOPS venture, it quickly turned into the same ole girl gets bitten/scratch by a paranorm, changing hijinks ensue, hot sweaty sex happens, romance blossoms, high drama occurs, and then the happily ever after. Yawn. Got that in the books 1 through 4. Plus, now there's even more characters with Katie, Shaw, Teeny and Katie's staff - so just as Wanda was getting really interesting, she was pushed aside, mainly relegated to telling Nina to be quiet and commenting on how unhelpful Nina was. And Nina was stuck with the same ole schtick of switching between cursing everyone and threatening anyone, even though there's been hints of a deeper personality. On top of the character issues, I found the story rather a mess, not nearly as cleanly written or funny as the previous books. It felt as if the author was just pushing this story out to meet a deadline instead of crafting characters and world building to add to the world of accidentals. I may never know if we ever get to see more of Nina's softer side because I'm not terribly interested in continuing this series if the storytelling remains, as I fear, this formulaic. ( )

After stopping to help an injured cougar veterinarian Katie Woods quickly realises that she just brought a ton of trouble into her life when her hand suddenly turns into a paw after being scratched. With a set full of new teeth, Katie goes through all the logical medical reasons for her sudden transformation. Lucky for Katie, the crew of OOPS is on the task. Having been through an accidental turning before, Wanda, Marty, Nina and Casey are on the case. Katie thought that suddenly having a paw was pretty wild but when the cougar who scratched her turned into a handsome Englishman, Kate quickly realised that this already complicated situation is even more complicated - or, at least, that is what her quickly beating heart is telling her.

This book five of the Accidentals series and it's now absolutely formulaic. It goes like this: girl gets accidentally scratched/bitten by some supernatural creature, girl has a freak out cause she is no longer completely human, boy feels immediate attraction and of course responsibility for the change, boy is also dealing with some kind of mortal danger, girl and boy solve his problems and have their HEA. These books are so formulaic that at this point I swear they've been written by the numbers.

Each male interest comes with their own little twist and in Shaw's case it's amnesia. Because he cannot remember who he is let alone his own name, Shaw is of little help assisting Katie with her change. Shaw is the typical tall dark and handsome type with a shade of commanding and creepy. Creepy how you may wonder? When a man sniffs a womans panties to ensure that he is straight, I'd say a shade of creepy is an accurate description. On the side of good, Shaw is entertaining and sarcastic, easily my favorite character in Accidentally Catty.

Unfortunately, once again, Nina makes an appearance in this book. I just want this character to disappear into a massive plot hole and never ever return. Being a vampire, Nina is the enforcer of the OOPS crew but has the class of a billy goat. Look, I'm not one with virgin ears or eyes but I am sick of Nina's dialogue because every second word she says is fuck. The constant swearing doesn't make her look tough but it just makes her look ignorant with a teeny vocabulary. I also don't understand exactly why the women are friends with Nina. They all constantly have to hold her back and tell her to shut up, even as she bullies them, curses them out and threatens them every second page.

Okay sorry about the Nina rant but I cannot stand that character and in fact, I deserve a cookie for putting up with her for FIVE books. Okay, back to Katie. Kate is in her early forties and recovering after a bad divorce in which her work reputation was ruined. When Shaw enters her life, the last thing she is looking for is romance, particularly with someone who doesn't look old enough to vote. Kate quickly becomes obsessed with the idea that she is a cradle robber and goes into complete denial. So how does she deal with having an attraction she feels is inappropriate? Well, she tries to convince herself that Shaw is gay.

It's worth noting that this is book 5 in the Accidentals series and we have yet to be introduced to a single LGBT character. Instead, what Cassidy offered us was a terrible parody of inclusion. Kate tells herself that Shaw must be gay to deal with her uncomfortable attraction to him. If Shaw is gay then he is safe as far as Kate is concerned. Other than Kate's fear of her attraction to Shaw, she justifies believing that he is gay based in the fact that he made some vague reference to Project Runway. Having the straight love interest being thought of as gay is a cheap device and offensive. Then Cassidy doubles down on her offensiveness.

Accidentally Catty is the fifth book in the Accidental series by Cassandra Cassidy. These books are fun paranormal romances, not too heavy, with a good dose of humor. The first three books focused on a group of friends (Marty, Nina and Wanda) and how they each entered the paranormal community. As one can guess from the series title, it’s not always a planned event! Book four focused on Wanda’s sister, Casey. The four ladies decided to create OOPS, an organization dedicated to helping others who find themselves accidentally a part of a world they likely didn’t even know existed.

Accidentally Catty focuses on Katie Woods, a veterinarian who has come to live with her Aunt Teeny to heal from a painful divorce and start a new practice. Unfortunately the townspeople are not welcoming, so her practice is slow at best. One day a cougar from the local exotic animal park shows up hurt on her doorstep. She treats him, getting scratched in the process, and puts him in a cage to rest. Imagine her surprise when the next day a super hot 20-something guy is in the cage in the cougar’s place. Add to that the fact that Katie’s hand has turned into a paw, and it becomes clear that something strange is going on. Katie’s receptionist calls in the gals from OOPS, and they converge on the small town to try and help Katie through what promises to be an interesting transition to her new life.

In addition to fighting with the changes in her body, Katie fights her attraction to the cougar shifter now staying in her Aunt’s home. Beck, as they name him, has amnesia. He can remember some things about life in general, and knows when something feels right about his past, but doesn’t remember his name or anything specific about himself. Add to the fun Wanda and Nina getting charged with attacking a vet from the exotic zoo, and Katie has about all of the crazy she can handle. The path to working out all of these issues is done with enough romance and humor, and just a bit of violence, to make this a paranormal romance worth reading. I highly recommend the entire series for someone who is looking for a quick, fun read. ( )

What I Loved: Let me say this upfront and apologetically: I LOVE the Accidental Series. It is such a fun, light Paranormal Read. This is one of those series, that without fail, will make me laugh out loud and have water coming out of my nose (aka the induction into The Snort Club-my special place for books that are just that funny)! This book had everything I love about the series: Handsome Paranormal Hunk (Check), Accidental Human turned into Paranormal (Check), The Gals from the Previous Books (Check), and a few other characters that make all my frowns turn upside down! I really loved Katie and Spanky together! Aunt Teeny made me giggle and the whole Animal Kingdom Crew just really warmed the heart!

What I Liked: The twitter feeds! Let me just say that if Nina and OOPS (which is brilliant by the way) were really on Twitter; I would put them on their own list and spend all day cracking up. Nina never fails to make me smile but mostly I think it is Wanda/Marty trying to wrangle her in that make me laugh more. Not ever going to work ladies LOL.

Complaints: None! This gave me what I have come to expect and love about Dakota Cassidy books!

Why I gave it a 4: This one is more like Wanda/Marty than Nina/Casey but I like them all. If you are looking for a fun, light, easy to read book this series will fulfill that need. I will call them the Chic-lit equivalent in the Paranormal world, which means not everyone will like them but I sure do!

Who I would recommend it too: My PNR peeps that like the fun, light, and sometimes snarky humor that can be found in these books!
