I am just starting my first year of High School. It's the Fall of 2000 and I am starting it alone – with no friends, no clear goals to achieve and no idea what high school will look like.

Luckily, I find myself joining the Forensics team (Speech, Debate and Student Congress) while searching for a place to belong and enter a world of competition, learning, drama and excitement. With a variety of competitors and different events every weekend, Forensics offers a chance to escape my current situation at home and find myself surrounded by new, ambitious friends, mentors and coaches and an opportunity to work towards a brighter future while still navigating the pitfalls and triumphs of teenage life. It's a simpler time before social media, smart phones and 24/7 connectivity but it's still High School, after all. Follow me on my journey.
