Now POV is the aftermath; the "return to normal life". The question remains, is it a return to "normal"? Nothing will ever be the same. Even Jane's parents are changed: Dad throws himself into work; mom doesn't know how to reach her daughter and begins to regress.

Then POV takes the reader on Jane's kidnapping journey. The horror inflicted on her; the budding "romance" with fellow kidnappee Mason. Is he real? Is he a figment of her imagination, pressing her to survive and find a way out, to escape? Or is it a mind trick

The author weaves a spellbinding tale of horror, suspense, fear, the desire for Jane and those around her, to find herself again or to discover who she is now. There were times that I put down the book, not wanting it to end, but then picking it back up to keep going, pushing Jane on to survive.

I liked how the author, right from the start, stated that it was Jane telling her story, in her way. Not through a therapist, or through her parents. She knew the only way to get the truth out was by putting it down in a book. Of course, it also begs the question, what memories were really/what memories were based upon the trauma she went through. Was it all real or was it a lie?

This was a really unexpected book for me. I was wary of the premise (a girl is inexplicably drawn to the mysterious new boy in school-- where have we heard that one before?) but decided to read it anyway, being seduced by the gorgeous cover (which by the way, I feel has little to do with the book).

I say unexpected because this turned out to be somewhat of a horror/suspense novel-- rather than focusing on romance, the main character receives suspicious messages and phone calls, and every few chapters we get a journal entry from the perspective of her stalker. In terms of suspense, creepiness and intrigue, the author definitely delivered. I kept changing my guess as to who the stalker was right up until the end.

Unfortunately, everything else in the book fell a bit flat. Camelia was only interesting as a main character due to the mysterious things that kept happening to her, her two best friends Kimmie and Wes annoyed me with their "witty" banter every time they showed up, and her romance with Ben was lukewarm at best. I really don't understand why they fell for each other or what they see in each other. The characters and relationships were never really explored in more depth, which made this book feel more like a cheap B-movie/made-for-tv thriller with very little substance.

This is a riveting book that would be a great discussion starter for a book club or a high school classroom. Very well-written and engrossing, with a relatable MC. I enjoyed it very much. CW for abduction, psychological abuse and manipulation, coercive use of drugs, sexual assault.
