The author identifies all major Book of Mormon lands and city sites using a combination of Mesoamerican archaelogical location/time-frame evidence (National Geographic, and the like), records of the Native Chroniclers (Annals of the Kakchiquels, Title of the Lords of Totonicapan, & the like), research of the ancient names, locations, and languages (as found in a growing number of dictionaries of native Maya languages, maps, and resources), by spending time on the ground in Central America at sites, and using whatever other histories, books and resources available - - - coupled with the precise technical historical, geographical, cultural, and regional insights provided by the Book of Mormon itself. See MormonTopics.com.
Subsequent to the author's first book (above), he has published three more books which in addition to correcting several minor details, have confirmed, refined, and solidified the work with additional discoveries and fascinating details. The subsequent works are:
2) Mormon Names in Maya Stone (eBook & Softbound, 2009)
3) Mormon Key to maya Code (eBook, 2012)
4) Mormon Footprint in Mesoamerica (eBook, 2012)
