Educational. And don't get me wrong, some of Olsen's byuspeeches are my favorites. But I feel like the book played favorites and left out a lot of people I wanted to know about(Ruth, Esther, Rahab). Also I felt like there were a lot of blondes... And, don't get me wrong, I love blondes. But I'm pretty sure that everyone in the Old Testament wasn't blonde and, if they were, their hair/appearance was a bit more gritty than that. :)
Beautiful book. I love the diversity of the illustrations. I appreciate the author's knowledge of these ancient cultures which brings such richness and understanding of the scriptures and the lives of Mary, Joseph, and Jesus.
This is a basic presentation of some of the Women of the Old Testament; their roles and positions in society during the time they lived; and, how they influenced the events of their time. I bought it for the art mostly - Elspeth Young renders her subjects with cultural accuracy as well as sensitivity to each women as a unique individual.
This book looked beyond the surface meanings of this bible story and included a timeline and history of Martha's life and her progression in her understanding of Christ as her Savior. I think this is the essence of what we need to learn from this story.
