Biografía breve
Aube Elléouët, née Breton, was born in Paris, France, the daughter of writer André Breton, founder of Surrealism, and painter Jacqueline Lamba. In 1943, she and her mother lived for a year at the home of Frida Kahlo in Mexico City.
She met the painter, poet and writer Yves Elléouët in 1955 and married him the following year. From 1960 to 1966, she worked as a social worker in Paris. In 1966, she moved to Saché in Touraine, where she created her studio. She is a visual artist specializing in delicate collages combining poetry and humor, made with images, postcards, playing cards, and objects found in flea markets. She had her first exhibition in 1977 at the Galerie Le Triskele in Paris. Her work is included in many private and museum collections, including the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris. In 2003, with her daughter Oona Elléouët, she co-founded the Phares collection of documentary films at Seven Doc, aiming to make the history of Surrealism more accessible, to raise awareness of lesser-known Surrealist artists, and to highlight the importance of female artists in the Surrealist movement. The letters that her father wrote to her from the 1930s to the 1960s were published as Lettres à Aube in 2009.
