Colette Brichant (1926–2013)

Handy reference with selections from humanist reading sources. I used this to pass the graduate student exam for non-French students and it proved to be helpful and a bit more involving because of the interesting Humanities aspect of the readings. It would probably not be sufficient fodder for a serious student of French really pursuing the language as their true goal.

For what is is supposed to do--give potential research students in the humanities a reading knowledge of French --
it really works. I had it in a 5 week course in 1972 and it gave me enough to pass the French test for the medieval program at Yale and read research in French ever since. (Jointly with Brichant's French Grammar).
