An early version of the latter five parts' book of the author. This one concentrate on the period of the unified company and did not tale the story of the nine predecessor companies. Just a good introduction of the other books.

Une histoire assez précise de ce réseau qui ambitionnait de créer un lien entre Boston et Portland, entre le Maine et la mégapole de New York. Trop tôt disparu malgré des atouts non négligeables qui se révélèrent aussi ses tares, elle fût victime d'une sous-capitalisation des sociétés qui l'exploitèrent, obligeant un recours à l'emprunt trop important pour un tramway tirant le principal de ses revenus des quatre mois d'été.
