This was another excellent book by Kimmel, enchanting me with small towns all over again, and reminding me why life is good. ( )

I genuinely enjoyed this book. It chronicles "a turbulent time in our history" (e.g. it was set in the 1960s/1970s) and captures how working-class people dealt with the Civil Rights Era, "women's lib" and any number of things that are glossy and distant. Kimmel definitely doesn't do distant or glossy; you can see the fleas and sweat and sheer work and joy of Mooreland, Indiana. ( )
