From the award-winning author of Waltzing at Midnight... Haunted by an unspeakable tragedy, ex-cop Stef Byers is headed for the Sacramento River Delta and her newly-purchased houseboat. Her plans are to get the craft seaworthy and then sail into the snaking waterways--alone. Life for a veterinarian in Stillwater Bay is good. Jackie Townsend is fond of the quirky inhabitants and loves the natural beauty. The newcomer working on the dilapidated boat could become much more than a random acquaintance, but it's clear that the moody Stef harbors a grim secret and wants to get lost in her pain, not found by romance. The waterways of the Delta tangle and weave for hundreds of miles, hiding secret coves, serene vistas and fragile depths. But they are no match for the tides of a woman's heart.… (más)

Stef is new in Stillwater. She's running away from something or herself or both (what that is we slowly get to know as the novel goes on). She's bought a houseboat to live on, only problem, it's currently on land and in disrepair. She also has Deuce, a Golden Retriever. He's not why she meets Jackie, who's the Vet in town, but, he's definitely why Jackie starts thinking that maybe Stef isn't just a bitch with a chip on her shoulder.

They slowly get closer and closer, but, Stef doesn't just have baggage, she has a whole baggage claim (and rightly so), and so there are some hurdles in her and Jackie's journey towards each other.

I liked the secondary characters a lot (Well, maybe not Niko's bad jokes). And I also very much liked how we were introduced to who's related to whom at the beginning of the novel. It was subtle and cool.

It wasn't a flashy novel, although it did have a momentary mystery which was cool. A fun novel. ( )

I very much enjoyed this book and would enjoy a series surrounding these characters. While I see why the book ended where it did, I could also see it being a longer book. ( )

"Spring Tide" nicely fills in the gap between McCoy's light-hearted "Not Every River" and her more intense works, like "For Me and My Gal." Overall, it's a humorous and uplifting story of a big city cop slaying her demons and unexpectedly finding love with a small town veterinarian. ( )
