- Descripción:
- Food for Thought was in existence from the mid-1970s through mid 2014.
Food for Thought was the Valley's only non-profit, workers' collective bookstore. In existence since the mid-seventies (when it began as a table of books at the old pre-order Amherst Food Co-op), the bookstore grown and evolved in many ways over the years. More than just a bookstore, the collective strove to be a community resource for the pleasantly diverse group of people and organizations that make up the progressive and radical communities in the Valley.
As a worker-owned collective, we operated without a boss or single owner through cooperation, communication and consensus. We all shared the benefits and responsibilities of running our own business.
We specialized in the following areas: Progressive, Multicultural & Radical Politics, Queer Studies, Women's Studies, Fiction & Poetry, Music, Comix, Media Studies, Science & Ecology, Education, multicultural & progressive childrens' books, and much more.
We're located conveniently in downtown Amherst right across the street from Bart's Ice Cream, kitty-corner from the Post Office. Parking can be had on the street or in the CVS parking lot right behind us.
