I am currently reading aloud Crispin and we are really enjoying it. We are also listening to In Freedom's Cause by G A Henty. It is about William Wallace and Robert the Bruce. It is very good, as are most Henty books.

I'm glad to hear the Henty is good. I think that is one I meant to use last year but instead ended up cutting back our history related readings. We will get to it!
We are reading The Indian in the Cupboard and Stormy, Misty's Foal, plus assorted picture books (Tomie DePaola's Tony's Bread is a particular favorite!).

We're reading Charlotte's Web and Greek Myths retold by Mary Pope Osborne Tomorrow we'll read the last two chapters of Charlotte's Web, I've got to figure out what to read next!

What a problem, :)

We live a short drive from the ponies in Marguerite Henry's books. I love to go and see them in the winter when it is very quiet on the island.
G A Henty books sometimes take a while to get into. I often have to look up some of the works he uses. They are also very long and take a while to get though, but they are always worth the effort.

I think I read all of Marguerite Henry's books when I was young -- wish I'd kept them all! I always wanted to go see those ponies. Maybe now that I have a horse crazy daughter of my own I will make it happen!

I love Charlotte's Web, though I can't read the end without crying. We like Greek Myths, and also Geraldine McCaughrean's Roman Myths. I love the endless possibilities of choosing the Next Book!

Right now we are reading Mary Poppins. It seems to be taking forever (mostly due to 2yo, 6mo, and a sometimes wiggly 4yo), although we enjoy the story. Next I'd like to cover the first chapter from Everyday Graces. It's from the library, so we'll have to read a bit at a time until we get our own copy!

We're reading The Secret Garden, Rufus M., Augustus Caesar's World, and the Grey Fairy Book. We don't do well with just one book at a time, as you can see. :)

We are still reading The Hobbit. It is a slow process, as I have one child who only tolerates 30 minutes or so of read aloud time. She'll read just about anything by herself though. :)

We have now finished In Freedoms Cause and Crispin Cross of Lead. My ds enjoyed Crispin so much he has now also read the second book, Crispin on the Edge of the World. I have just finished reading Morning Star of the Reformation aloud. It was excellent. Next week for will be doing a unit on Medeival Japan.

We are now reading From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. It is educational in unexpected ways, such as learning about automats. We are also reading The Red and The Blue Fairy Tale Books. Good stuff!

We're now reading Stig of the Dump (it's a British classic; great fun and worth seeking out, especially for the mechanically inclined), The Princess and the Goblin, Freddy Goes to Florida, and The Grey Fairy Book. I've lost count of the books DD1's got going on her own... I think she just finished the "Measle" series (it starts with Measle and the Wrathmonk), The Invention of Hugo Cabret, and The Seven Wonders of Sassafras Springs.
