can't get consistent results when scanning.

i've got an old ps/2 cuecat hooked to a laptop with a usb adapter. it reads fine, and it looks like the correct kind of gibberish, but i never get the same results when i scan the same barcode twice in a row & have yet to add a single book in this manner.

does anyone have any idea's what i am doing wrong?

Try scanning a bunch of books over and over and over into Word or Notepad. Then look at what it's doing. Are the strings it produces the same or different?

Be sure to do a bunch of books, in case the problem is some instability in the books' code.

i've scanned 6 books multiple times into notepad and the strings are all different. some of them are very similar and only off by 1 or 2 characters, but none match.
