Hi everyone,

I'm Chris McGowan, the co-author of "The Brazilian Sound: Samba, Bossa Nova and the Popular Music of Brazil" (Temple University Press). I just published an updated, 3rd edition of the book, which has been the leading guide to Brazilian music in English since 1991 (when it was first published). I'll be participating in Author Chat from March 16-30, and you can ask me any an all questions about samba, bossa nova, choro, forró, axé music, Brazilian jazz and rock, and/or other Brazilian genres and artists.

See you there!

Chris

I am no expert on Brazilian music. There is a contralto, though, whose voice is quite beguiling. Her name is Virginia Rodrigues. I have one of her recordings, and there are 3 or more videos on Youtube of her singing.
