Jackie Gleason donated his ~1700 book library to the U of Miami and they have put the biblio online

..and an Exhibit

There is an option for exporting the list as a MARC - can this be imported into LT? If not there is also a "end-note/ref-works" option, and a text file option. I don't know what would work for importing into LT.
Thanks
Stephen

I'm not sure how importing MARC records works, or even what the heck they are, but I'm willing to import this stuff the hard way if you need help still. I can also create the page if you need me too, I need another project to work on after T. E. Lawrence!

I know it's possible to import MARC records directly, but I think that the techie people have to be involved. I'll see if I can bring it to their attention.

Well there is now a Jackie Gleason library (this is Kordo f.y.i.) so whenever the MARC records get worked out one way or another, we can start the importation process.

Yeah, when you get the records together, email them to me (casey@librarything.com) and I can run them. Don't add anything to the account that would be in a MARC record, though. The MARC import doesn't check for duplicates.
Basically we don't have MARC import as an option because there are a lot of little things you have to get right -- the MARC syntax, the character encoding, etc. Libraries upload MARC records for our LibraryThing for Libraries service, but those are pro librarians doing that, and even then, things can get... interesting. And bad data on the LTFL side doesn't end up permeating the whole site like it does on LT.

preblecounty, I sent you the MARC records. There are three other export format options:

Stbalbach has graciously informed me that Jackie Gleason's is now completely uploaded. Could someone make him officially a legacy library?

If you sort it by popularity, I think the top two books are broken and need to be deleted. (And there are only ~1400 books, total - is there a reason for that?)
But good work, all! I don't mean to be completely negative. :)

haha wow I am surprised there are 8500 "?" entries! Yes, those two will need to go away.
The 1400/1700 question seems like it might be a title/volume discrepancy (the catalog lists 1428 records, the description of the collection says ~1700 volumes)

1700 includes journals and pamphlets, so it's really ~1400 books.
Yeah there was an import problem with 2 records, I'll see if I can find and delete.

If you sort by "Shared", as Katya noted above, they'll be the first two, with just "?" in author and title.
