Whats everyone reading in 2009

Hi everyone, I am currently reading Rebecca by Daphen Du Maurier for the 999 challenge.

Does anyone on here have any New Zealand authors or books that they could recommend to me? I feel I don't read enough from New Zealanders so I am trying this year to rectify this.

Hi there, I'm currently reading Dawn French's autobiography "Dear Fatty" which was given to me for Christmas, and I'm quite enjoying it.

I Am Not Esther by Fleur Beale is good but is YA. You may enjoy it anyway? :)

#2 I also got Dear Fatty for Christmas and read it in a couple of days. I thought it was fantastic. She is such a funny person.

I am really enjoying Swings and Roundabouts: Poems about Parenting, edited by Emma Neale, at the moment. It's mainly by NZ poets with a few Australians, Americans etc.

I recently read Margaret Mahy's Magician of Hoad which I thought was fabulous. I'm waiting for Denise L'Estrange-Corbet's All that glitters which is also supposed to be an excellent read, as well as Dear Fatty.
As I've succumbed to my desire to create an LT library for my adult material, I've been slowly adding those too, as well as maintaining my other two accounts - so glad I'm on holiday!
(No joy with the touchstone for Denise L'Estrange-Corbet and All that glitters, so we've ended up with Virginia Andrews.... Any advice on how to de-select a touchstone?)

#6, raising-a-reader: if you edit your message and remove the left and right square brackets around the book you were trying to make a touchstone for, that will de-select the touchstone.

I just read (Crime Story) by ((Maurice Gee)) and really enjoyed it. His characters are so real. I have (Blindsight) in my TBR pile, will let you know how that goes (when I eventually get around to reading it).

#9, GB_Chick: I haven't read those two books by Maurice Gee, but I have read his Plumb trilogy and Ellie and the Shadow Man, all of which are excellent.

You might want to try replacing those parentheses round the names of books and authors with square brackets - that should make the touchstones work, although they are still pretty unreliable!

#6, I also read and loved Magician of Hoad this month. I do not like the cover pic though, it's just not how I imagine Heriot at all. I've just started Brian Falkner's The Tomorrow Code.

#1, I enjoyed Lloyd Jones The Book of Fame and I've heard good things about his Here at the end of the world we learn to dance.

As well as personal recommendations you could try linking with Beattie's Book blog, NZ Book Month and their subsequent recommended blogs and the blogs /recommend sections of various libraries round the country like Christchurch City, Auckland City and North Shore Libraries.

I've been reading YA fiction as part of a National Library scheme for school staff. The first four were all quite dark, about bullying, dead parents and so on, but I've just finished The tar man which was more my cup of tea - time travel.
