I would like to thank vintage_books and TheTortoise for recommending The Pirate of Exquisite Mind and starting this group read. I guess I'm not into partcipating in group reads. But, I loved the book and reading all of the comments.

Absolutely, y'all two, THANK YOU!!!

This was easily the most thoroughly organized online book circle reading group I have ever encountered and it was a pleasure to read along in the comments. I still want to sum up my feelings about the book in a review, but am finding time crunches everywhere I look.

Vintage, well done! Milord, well managed!

I also finished recently and was very impressed. The research was awe-inspiring and the narrative flow was perfect. Pirate or not, Dampier was one heck of an explorer and naturalist, just sadly neglected. I would also like to express my appreciation to vintage_books & TheTortoise for a terrific job, without them I would never have stumbled across this fascinating bucaneer!

Thank you all for your kind words, and especially yours Richard. Vintage_Books and I set out to create a "Highly-Rated Book Group". We wanted a group that reads highly-rated books and that is highly-rated by its members - we are gratified if we have begun to achieve that.

Our thanks go out to all the members who participated both in the threads and in the quizzes or who read along with us. All are welcome whatever the level of involvement you chose.

You have helped us to enjoy the experience and we look forward to another great group read in the new year.

Vintage_Books will be setting up the new book shortly - its a gem - keep checking!

I can't see starting a thread for this, but I wanted to get an idea before the assembled readers bearing on next time's group read.

What does the readership think of putting the forum in the "Group Reads" category? That is, call it "Group Reads-{title of next book}" instead of having the title be the main focus as it is in this forum? I wonder if, should we call it ""Group Reads-{x}," there would be even greater drive-by participation and even more interesting conversations?

I propose only, and advocate warmly.

I would also like to post a (very belated) thank you for all the participants - you are wonderful! A special thank you to MusicMom41, who created this group, and than encouraged me to become Moderator, something I never envisioned myself doing. And can you believe I've never been part of a Book Group before? :)

A super-duper thank you to TheTortoise who not only works feverishly in the background with no credit, but also stepped in to take over the group when my work intervened and I had to step away. Thank you so much, Mr. Tortoise! May your shell never lose its shine!
