uploading to member gallery does not work for me

1al.vick

I upload a picture to my member gallery, and it seems to work, but then when I go back to it, only the thumbnail is present, and the actual image is not there. So I cannot link to it in a post.

Are the trouble images actually in your gallery at https://www.librarything.com/gallery/member/al.vick, and if so, which ones? Or, are they missing somehow?

The last one I uploaded... https://www.librarything.com/pic/10765877. Note there is no picture on this page. It is the first thumbnail after the chosen member pic of my cat.

I cannot. The web page I sent in message 3 is blank for me.
Safari 17.4.1 MAC Sonoma 14.4.1

I cannot see it in Firefox either.

I can only see the thumbnail in the gallery, but when I click on it, there is no image on the page. I have been getting the feeling that is just me. I tried clearing my history and cookies, but that made no difference.

I can see other pictures. I would upload a picture of the blank page, but well....

Okay, I'm also on Firefox and I do not see the image in >3 al.vick: when I click on the thumbnail.

I do see the others, though, so it must be something specific to that image.

I think this may be another example of this bug - https://www.librarything.com/topic/359160.

Im seeing the same "Could not load the image" message in Web Developer Tools, when I hover over over the image link.

Seems to be image specific, and not limited to authors. I've seen it on profile pics too, but apparently not reported it.

Okay, I'll note this to conceptDawg and see if he can look at it at some point, thanks!

FWIW, the original image isn't missing. Our image server just had some problem when generating the high-res image for display on the web. If you load the same page on a 1x (old-school standard resolution) monitor/screen then it will show up just fine.

I'll look into this deeper to find the cause and a way to identify when this happens.

To get this fixed I'll need to invalidate that image on multiple levels of the system, so it might take a while for things to shake out.

>11 conceptDawg: Great work at identifying the behaviour. When I move my LT window from the iMac retina display to the standard resolution second monitor and reload the page, then the image loads! Same as for the images in https://www.librarything.com/topic/359160. No wonder people were suspecting my hardware!

So what fix can I use to see the image? I want to link to the image in a post, and I usually click on the thumbnail, and then open the image (which currently I cannot see) to get the URL to put in a message.

>13 al.vick: Open image page
Tools>Page Source (or command-U)
Edit>Find .jpg
The image URL should be the first one - in this case https://pics.cdn.librarything.com//picsizes/09/98/09986e18099c9fb6372466c3751437...

I'm having the same problem as al.vick. Following for updates.

>15 rodneyvc: Meanwhile, I'll try this. On Mac Chrome, it's command-option-U

17al.vick
Abr 22, 10:30 am

>15 rodneyvc: I don't understand that. Command-U doesn't seem to do anything, and I don't understand the tools (not tools menu) or edit (find...find what?, putting in .jpg does nothing). command option U does not seem to do anything either. Basically, I cannot access the image.

>17 al.vick: Command-U works in Firefox if the Tools menu is visible.

In Safari, make sure the Develop menu is visible by enabling Preferences -> Advanced - "Show Develop menu in menu bar"
Then Develop>Show Page Source (or option-command-u)
Edit>Find>Find... (or command-f)
enter ".jpg" (without quotes) - the first url found should be the one you need.

oh dear. Maybe it is just not worth it. Can't this be fixed somehow?

>19 al.vick: Chris said in >11 conceptDawg: that he's working on it.

In the meantime, maybe try lowering the resolution of your display? Are you on a Mac?
