Suggestion: Allow three images per book

This is a request for the development team to set up / allow three (3) images per book or item. 1) The cover (what is available now); 2) back cover (often helpful for movies—shows features, music—shows song list, puzzles—sometimes artist bio, etc.); 3) an additional image for detail (e.g., book—author signature; music/movie—insert or disc art; puzzle—image of finished puzzle). Thanks for considering this.

You can put other images in the comments section. Use anHTML img tag and point the source to the image hosted online. Pay attention to the size.

This suggestion would use large amounts of resources, create more areas that would need policing for spam and undesirable images, and be mostly interesting for non-book items.

I don't know where you imagine these images would be seen, but I certainly do not want them using valuable page space on the main work page.

I suppose there could be a “Work Gallery”, just as there is an Author Gallery.

Tim was part of a discussion considering additional images of back covers and spines. He didn't reject the idea for any of the reasons given by >3 MarthaJeanne: IIRC.

Features, song lists, etc can be entered into the Disambiguation notice (to keep movies with different features separate, or CDs with different track lists separate)

>4 lilithcat: I think your solution would be a good one. That way people who are not interested would not have to look at them and the images would not take up any space on the work page.

>1 pandr65: I agree with >3 MarthaJeanne: This could take up large amounts of memory. Much as many works already have dozens and dozens of pictures of different editions' front covers - many of them duplicates (including where some members want a picture of their personal copy), and many others really bad quality (poor resolution and/or out of focus) - some works could find themselves with masses of duplicate/bad spine and back cover pictures.

Are you suggesting linking the front cover, spine and back cover pictures together somehow, or would they be pick and mix?

As >6 gilroy: says, "song lists, etc can be entered into the Disambiguation notice", although I've tended to put them in the "Book description" field.

>4 lilithcat:. There is already a "Work gallery" - the "Popular covers".

It's a "No, thank you" from me.

Here's the old thread I recalled: https://www.librarything.com/topic/137275

We, from the Brasilia Meditation Group, would also like to reinforce this request for the development team to set up / allow three (3) images per book or item.

That would be much valuable for us, as it would allow uploading not only the image of the cover of a book or magazine but also the images of the summary pages, which would normally require two additional images.

We have a lovely collection of back issues of Self-Realization Magazine whose covers say nothing about the contents. If we could have the images of the summary pages next to the cover, the search would become much more effective and interesting.

As it would be of great value for magazines, we believe that this would also be of great value for books, as it would allow several upload possibilities, such as 1) the current cover (which is already available); 2) two other covers from previous editions (e.g., first edition, special edition); 3) summary pages; 4) back cover; 5) any additional detail (e.g., author signature, author photo) and so on.

At first, we thought that the “Old” Covers field (Catalog Fields>Miscellaneous>"Old" Covers) would serve this purpose, but unfortunately, we found out that was not the case.

Adding my voice to this thread to request three images per book. I have an extensive home library with more than 2,000 volumes. Since I live in an urban apartment, long ago I decided to seek out authors of all of my books to have them sign/inscribe/doodle their tomes in my collection as a way to add value and save space. I would welcome the ability to save photos of the inscription/signature/doodle, as well as for documenting the condition of the volume, both of which are factors that have a significant impact on the market value of the item.

If I die, I want to grant my sons access to my library and have them share this with a book dealer who can offer a fair market appraisal of the books without having to travel.
