April-June 2023 Nominations and Voting

It is that time again.

You know how it works:
- If you want us to read an author, mention them (even if someone beats you to it - we count how many times an author is mentioned/requested).
- Authors who had been our Author of the month between April 2021 and March 2023 are not eligible. Everyone else is. Even authors with a single book to their name. Preferably authors who have at least something published in English (as most people in the group do not have a different common language).
- The 3 authors with the most votes become our authors of the month for the 3 months we are voting for; in case of ties which produce more than 3 authors, I pick who we read from the tie and the rest roll as house nominees for the next voting period.

Edna Ferber, Sara Baume, Elizabeth von Arnim, Frederick Backman and Chaim Potok are this month's house nominees: that gives them 1/2 point - they win if they end up in a tie but they still need support to get into a tie; the original nominator from the last nominations is allowed to nominate/support them again if they want to.

Deadline: 1 March 2023

I nominate Rebecca West. I’ve just finished The Return of the Soldier for RTT and would love to read more of her works.

>7 Tess_W: :) Deadline: 1 March 2023 -- I just did not have time to post the threads yet and forgot I had not even posted the results.

Results:

Arnim - 2 (+1/2)
Potok - 3 (+1/2)
Ferber - 2 (+1/2)
Rebecca West - 2

Which means:
April: Chaim Potok
May: Elizabeth von Arnim
June: Edna Ferber

No house nominations for next time.

Threads will be up after the weekend, next voting will be in May.

>9 Tess_W: It would have tipped West in and Ferber out -- so if you/the group want West, don't forget to nominate her in May again :)

>10 AnnieMod: I probably won't nominate anybody. I like to read new to me authors, and this will force me to do so. (I don't force my OWN self!) I've not read a Potok book yet, so this is great!

Too bad Arnim didn't get scheduled for April for us to have an Enchanted April. But it's still a wonderful read, whatever month.

>12 kac522: Right? I did think for a second to wiggle around and put her in for April... :)

If everyone wants to, I can always swap them - I was going by number of votes basically.

>13 AnnieMod: April 5-13 is Passover, so Potok fits well there, too. And Edna Ferber died in April. Now we've got them all covered... :)

I have secured Chaim Potok's The Gates of November from the library. I should finish very early in April.

On a separate note - would anyone mind if I ask LT to add me as a second admin to the group? Our admin had disappeared in action again and I cannot touch the description of the group or pin the current month's topic or anything else... The current system allows more than 1 admin so it will be adding and not replacing.

Topic pinned, intro changed :)

I will sort out the Wiki in the next few days as well. If someone has a better picture for the group, the group will allow any member to change the picture on top.
