From the CP newsletter:

A many of you have learned, we have a new edition of The Book of the New Sun in the works. This is going to be amazing in the extreme: 8 × 12 inches size for the trade edition, and a massive 10 × 14 for the deluxe edition. Extras include the original Alex Preuss artwork (which Alex is reimagining as we speak, creating better artworks), new David Palumbo artwork (for The Shadow of the Torturer), maps by Timothy Kirk, a new gallery of character portraits by Zach Meyer, a reprint of the original Don Maitz cover, a new introduction by Michael Swanwick, an interview with Gene Wolfe from 1981 by Michael Bishop, and some pretty elaborate ideas for the printed cloth. We’re also thinking of running a critical essay by Gene Wolfe scholar Marc Aramini, and the maps from Gene Wolfe’s Planet Engineering.

It seems like CP is aiming to produce a superior edition to their first one.

>2 ultrarightist: This new edition will, I assume, not be signed by Gene Wolfe since he sadly passed away in 2019. Unless of course Jerad has some signed sheets, in which case this will be an instant sold-out collector's item! Assuming it's unsigned, the original release will still be the most sought-after release. As someone that had (but traded) the complete original set, I will say it was released during Centipede's "younger days" and had what I would consider some "issues" - for instance, the first book is longer than all the books in the series. For some that's not a big deal, but once you try to put them on your shelf it's a bit irksome :)
Anyway, I'm excited to see what this new edition is like!

>3 astropi: Signatures do not matter to me - content and production values do.

How is a book being longer than the other books in the series an 'issue'? Isn't that simply a function of the length of the text?

Or, by longer, do you mean dimensional length?

It will be interesting to see how this edition compares to the Folio Society LE.

I prefer Sam Weber's illustrations over those of Alex Preuss, although I do have a nostalgic liking for Don Maitz's original covers.

Well, one point of comparison with the Folio set will be that this new Centipede edition will feature all six books (just as the first CP edition) rather than just the 4 books that Folio produced.

I was quite happy to hear CP were doing another edition of this series, but holee - the sizes! Even the trade is around my limit of "easily readable". Kinda wish more limited editions were done smaller, more readable and less wieldable.

>7 JanPospisilCZ: Agree. I love CP, but my one critique is that too many of the books are too big for my taste and shelves.
