'This God thing...'

I just came across a beautiful quote by the late Jake Thackray, well known (at least in my day!) British humorous folk singer and a Catholic, which in many ways sums up the incarnation and much more:

Day by day, in my daily life, I meet lots of people and I can actually see God in their lives and I say to myself, "This God thing, there must be something in it. There's something going on here, pal, you know?" And the centre of this faith thing is that the God thing did actually come down and become human, consecrated, endorsed our humanity. I don't know about you, but I see it every day, in the way that people behave, the way that people trust. And of course the greatest of these is caritas, charity. I see it every day, and so I think, well, I'll go {to church} tomorrow.

* A reference to one of his songs.

I've just finished Raynor Winn's third book "Landlines" about her and sick husband's restorative long-distance walks and the people they meet. Many incidents where I was struck by stories of human kindness, decency, and caring for others.
