I'm in. I'll probably start next week, when I finish my current reads.

I highly recommend the following website for the footnotes/annotations your edition probably lacks:

I ordered a copy on August 14 and it still hasn't arrived. So I ordered another yesterday. With any luck, one will arrive soon...

I've read about 1/3 of this and have enjoyed it more than I expected -- although I don't know why, I liked Midnight's Children well enough. I expected this to be dense and difficult. It's confusing, yes, but the writing is charming and the story is fascinatingly weird. I appreciate the annotation website, which kept me clear about what the "Satanic Verses" really were and the debates around them.
There are many discrete sub-stories here, many characters and details, and I'm often unsure what is actually important. So far, however, the Rosa Diamond section is probably my favorite!
