Found: YA book may have been published in early 2000s

It was about two brothers and a single mom trying to make ends meet. She worked at a diner and would leave money in a jar to order pizza. The older brother would leave the younger brother to go hang out with friends and steal that money. The older brother was not in the greatest of friends group and I think was drinking and doing drugs. The little brother had to keep his secret since he was seeing all of this behind the scenes. The older brother and mom were always fighting and I think she knew the older brother was drinking or doing drugs due to horrible out breaks he was having. I'm pretty sure the older brother was also self harming himself and the little brother saw the cuts on his arms. Towards the end, the older brother either attempted suicide or overdosed in the bathroom tub and the younger brother found him and went to tell his mother everything that has been going on after calling 911. Older brother went to get help/rehab. It was a white cover book with two shadows in a doorway holding hands. I swore it was called my brother's keeper/secret, but can't find it anywhere!
