From Ray Bonis, Cabell Room librarian at VCU...
Gents,
A local Richmond writer asked me if I know of a quote by Mr. Cabell about the weight of a book being a signifier of its value - does that ring any bells?

I thought maybe in the polemical preface to A Certain Hour or somewhere in Beyond Life -- but so far I'm stumped?

No bells, sorry.

I thought it might be in Quiet, Please, so I read it (again?) tonight. I did not find the quote.

I guess I should put it up on LibraryThing, too.

Yes, please!

Fun review but I can't "like" it since I have no Goodreads account, so my thumb remains ... ah, in its scabbard until & unless you elect to copy it here.
ETA I see now you have brought it over.

The putative authoress of the preface is most famous for a weighty tome I dipped into a few nights ago, Origin of History as Metaphysic. I do not know what to make of it, yet.
