Are BiCBs trade editions or book clubs?

I recently saw a blog post where the author was indicating that the books in this series/set were not book club editions. I've seen these books and they feel like book club editions printed by Doubleday. In general, a trade edition would generally have a price on the jacket.

For those of you who collect these, what can you tell me about the status of these books as trade editions or book club editions?
