I am looking for an YA novel reminiscent of a S. E. Hinton book, possible set in the same timeframe (the 70's I think) as well. I thought it was a Hinton, but I haven't been able to find it.

It is about 4 or 5 brothers, ranging in age from preteen/early teen to just legal who end up orphans. I think one of them kills their father to protect one of the others. They run of and live in a car for a while, but somehow find a place to live.
The older brothers find work and takes care of the younger ones.
I am pretty sure the book is set in the US.

One of the brothers are somewhat of a druggie. He meets another boy on a parking lot (?) during the roadtrip part of the story. One of them eats freeze dried coffee to get a high.

One of the older brothers breaks his arm after they have settled somewhere, risking their safety and the lives they have build for themselves, but they find that they have found friends and people they can trust.

I thought one of the brothers was called Deuce, but this is probably wrong - none of the common knowledge is right anyway.

The book was translated to Danish and was available in the libraries in the mid-eighties.

Center Line by Joyce Sweeney perhaps. Translated into danish as "Bare derudad" in 1984.
