I read a book where the first lady (or Gov. wife) was killed by giving her food she was allergic to. Then, at the funeral a group of people help the famous mourners hostage. It occurred in NY. I NY detective who was losing his wife to a terminal illness and had a bunch of kids was working the case. I would like to know the name of the book or the author. I want to read some other of his (I am pretty sure it was a he) books, but I cannot remember who he is. Thanks!

It is a James Patterson book, I think the first of his new series on Detective Michael Bennett series -- "Step on a Crack". His wife is dying of cancer, they have ten adopted kids. He has two more books in the series. (I think "Run for Your Life" and "Worst Case".
