My love of books can be summed up by the words of Gilbert Highet 1906 - 1978 far more articulately than I ever could.
"These are not books, lumps of lifeless paper, but minds alive on the shelves. From each of them goes out its own voice, and just as the touch of a button can fill a room with music, so by taking down one of these volumes and opening it, one can call into range the voice of a man far distant in time and space, and hear him speaking to us, mind to mind, heart to heart".

The fascination I feel when I open an old book, where everyone involved in its production, author, typesetter, printer, bookbinder, etc are all long gone, but I can still read their thoughts and hold their work, never fades for me.
Perhaps that’s one of the reasons Egyptology and Hieroglyphics fascinate me.
To translate a group of hieroglyphs 5000 years old, never fails to excite me.
