- Sobre mi biblioteca
- Alanus and I just returned from our second trip to Europe! We had to buy extra luggage for the books. Both trips. We don't do the usual tourist thing; we get a list of used books stores, and go through as many as we can. We spend days in museums that allow us to photograph Viking (and some Roman) artifacts. We have demonstrated shoemaking and nalbinding at the Ribe Viking Center in Denmark. So our library is well, basically lots of stuff about the Vikings, crafts of the time, and medieval Europe, oh, and rocks. When we combined our libraries we found that we had duplicate copies of quite a few books -- another indication that we are soul mates!
One of our challenges is to enter book collection 10 or more times what what we have entered into the Library Thing to date.
Jorunn - Sobre mí
- Alanus and I study history from the Renaissance back to the Stone Age. We especially concentrate on the Norse Expansion (Viking) Age. Our special interests are (in no particular order): navigation, ships and shipbuilding, nalbinding, daily life, farming, clothing, leatherworking, metalworking, and the cultural use of earth minerals. We are re-enactors of the Viking period, part of a Viking household based in Western Washington State in the US. We do public demonstrations for the Nordic Heritage Museum in Ballard, the Poulsbo Viking Fest, and the Sons of Norway. It is our hope to build a full scale Viking ship soon, and it appears to be possible. Mundanely, Alan is a Project Manager at Boeing, and I am an Engineering Geologist with a private consulting firm.
