Salesian Spirituality
Salesian spirituality is the study of writings of St. Francis de Sales and St. Jane de Chantal. A key word to characterize Salesian spirituality is "practical." It developed out of DeSales' experience as a bishop of a small diocese and an advisor a wide variety of people who were interested in living out their faith in their daily lives.
The core message of Salesian spirituality is : Living a devout, a holy life, means fulfilling the mission that God has given you in the context of your vocation and station in life.
St Francis gives us advice on how to:
• Discern our mission
• Recognize and remove impediments
• Grow in ways that will contribute to living out our mission
One of St. Francis most famous sayings is, “Be what you are, but be it well.” The world God created needs you to fulfill the mission He has in mind for you. Your life and all that it includes are God’s gift to you and to everyone around you. God does not ask you to turn our back on the everyday world. Instead, He asks you to embrace it and live it in a way thatserves His larger purposes
