I love all of this author's works. She writes beautifully, interestingly, and includes her stunning watercolors of the subject matter. Her books are a true gem (not all of her books have her watercolors). She is a bird rescuer and the stories of her encounters with birds are beautiful to the mind and nervous system.

As an aside, another of her titles, "The Bluebird Effect," is one of my all-time favorite books, and I have given it as gifts to many art + nature lovers.

I find the most enjoyable natural history books are those that contain, in whole or part, stories that illuminate or enliven the natural science content. Saving Jemima is just such a book. Zickefoose's telling of her fostering the young blue jay is both narrative and avian zoology, memoir and field guide.
[Audiobook note: Perhaps only Zickefoose herself could have done justice to reading the text. When she recreates the jay's various calls, you know you are hearing the closest human approximation of the sound the text attempts to convey. Good thing she also does justice to the rest of text. Delightful.]… (más)

This is one of the most beautiful and uplifting books I've read. The illustrations are lovely and the stories of her interactions with all different types of birds are very captivating, informative, and feel-good.

This lovely book has thoroughly changed my perception of Blue Jay's. The intimate tale of raising Jemima from chick to adult plucks all the right heartstrings and makes the visits to my feeder from these beautiful corvid's all the more magical.
