The school of Fontainebleau: etchings and engravings; por Henri Zerner
Handsome compilation of the etchings and engravings associated with the first Fontainebleau school, with plenty of over-busy, stiff, yet occasionally fascinating high-mannerist designs. My own favourites include some of the overtly erotic prints by L.D. (Léon Davent) after Primaticcio, and the ‘refined heaviness’ and ‘cold beauty’ (to use Zerner’s terms) of Jean Mignon’s etchings after Luca Penni.
