Cali Williams Yost is a consultant that businesses bring in to help their employees figure out a “work-life balance,” even when the bosses don’t really think it’s necessary. Here’s the thing, though—she doesn’t believe in “balance,” with its implications of equality between work and life.

Instead, she offers up a way to make your life—both at work and everywhere else—flexible enough to handle whatever comes along while still having time for your own priorities.

Of course, that assumes one can be honest about those priorities. She’s got a program—the book also has a website/social media component, and is premised upon having one calendar to match your one life—that will make it possible to “tweak” your schedule on a daily and weekly basis so that the kids don’t suffer and the work deadlines get met.

It’s a reasonable enough approach and certainly a high point is the acknowledgment that work and life are not two separate things. Of course, the big bar to success is being willing to acknowledge one’s true priorities. Hint: Priorities are the things that you always get done; not the things you say you wantto get done.

Tweak It is enjoyable to read and carries a very sensible approach; it’s not a new organizational ”trick” so much as it’s a reminder that the ultimate form of organization comes from setting priorities—a task much more difficult than simply buying a new planner kit.
