This book is a thoughtful and insightful look into the depths of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and how it should permeate the life of his followers. It also looks at the modern church and shows how in many ways the church has missed the depth of the love of God for the shallowness of a gospel filled with cultural baggage.

When I read the back of this book I totally got "Tomorrow when the war began" vibes, I had really enjoyed that book, but this was nothing like it. I was really enjoying the first two thirds of the book and couldn't put it down. I wanted to find out what was going on. Then the last third took a twist that I didn't see coming which I would have been fine with except the last third of the book was so confusing. I really didn't understand a lot of what was happening. It just didn't make sense to me. I was really excited to read this book and was disappointed in the ending.
The audience of this book I think would be young adult males and that is evident in the writing. Lots of potty humour in the beginning of the book. Some violence as well with some of it being described a little bit graphically for me. No language or sexual content. Some hints at abuse between a father and a daughter although it wasn't clear to me exactly what happened. But then I feel like I missed a lot of what happened in this book!

I read while also going through the same Bible study. It added extra details not in the videos. Excellent study and explanation of Philippians. I like Matt's style, brings the reading to life, brings excitement to studying the Bible.

An honest look at the struggles and questions we all face as disciples and followers of Jesus who still wrestle with our brokenness.
