It was tough to get through since Williams spends most of the book chronicling his addiction along with his girlfriend Kathy. Their lives were pure misery. By spending so much time on their addictions, they give the negative impression that surviving is always possible. I can tell you from professional experience, it is not guaranteed that anyone with a drug habit can live for any extended period of time. Certain kinds of addictions are actually predicable, in the sense of immanent mortality. I'd seen people living on the street with William's issues living for maybe 6 months. It was not a pretty 6 months either. This book showed me again that anyone can have a great book written about their life. There are some people who not merely describe, but dwell on their depravity. Those people seem to want to make their dissolute lifestyle seem provocative. Hard luck stories aren't for everyone, and this one had me plowing through stuff I didn't want to read about. I learned a few new things about my own feelings over people not yet ready to deal with their substance addictions.… (más)
