The subject has the potential to be interesting, but this is a very dry, dissertation-like treatment. AND THERE'S NO MAP!! to show just where Duff'y's Cut is -- INEXCUSABLE!! There are also no good pictures of the area -- a very detailed multi-page written description in an appendix, which notes the exact spot which is "the single vantage point in the valley where all of the work of 1832 is visible" (p. 147) -- so where's the picture?!?
