Great arts and crafts projects to encourage recycling and reusing. Because of varying degrees of difficulty, perfect to do with all ages of children.

It's not even close to christmas right now but I happened to get my hands on this book and it's delightful. I expected just a straight adaptation of the 12 Days, but actually it's an epistolary tour of Canada! Juliette goes to visit her cousin Theo in Canada over the holidays, and she mails letters back home for every day they're there. They managed to go from coast to coast and hit every province (not the territories) in 12 days! Juliette learns some cool stuff and so did I. Saskatoon (the city) was named after saskatoon (the berry)! Toronto has 6 Chinatowns (I should have known that)! There's a city in Newfoundland called Come By Chance! The illustrations were beautiful. I especially liked this little tidbit: "National Horse: the Canadian horse". Who knew!… (más)

Easy To Follow

Everywear by Ellen Warwick*

Does your ensemble need a little panache? Do you want to go from so-so to wow with as little expense as possible? Are you looking for a way to make a fab belt or a stylish hair clip? Or maybe a cute hand purse or your own outstanding bracelet? Everywear is a your handy how-to guide on how to spiff up your outfit with your own hands without spending a bundle.

Everywear is a great resource for teens who wish to stylize their accessories. If you want to make your outfit to say “this is so me!” I would suggest this book.

The first few pages are just a general overview of the items you may need to use and the correct way to use them without hurting yourself (watch those fingers!). These first few pages will only take about 5 minutes to read and their mostly easy to follow, but what they lack in clarity in a few places they make up with in illustrations. The illustrations for each and every step in the process are clear and crisp. I believe you could probably even make your accessory with only the pictures as your guide.

Everywear is an easy to follow modern how-to guide.
