Surprisingly diverse collection of short stories all featuring a twist on the dark and its presence. The quality is overall high, which is impressive as this is a substantial anthology. The variation is admirable also, and I think there will be something within to satisfy all tastes. One story stood out to me by an author I’d not heard of before, Carole Johnstone, and I’m keen to read more from her as a result. There are no absolute duds here, though some simply didn’t grab me. Most focus on the slow creep of disquiet that arrises out of the sense that something lurks, or that the dark is ready to consume and disorientate, maybe possess. Classic horror territory but some interesting takes on the most fundamental of fears.… (más)
