This whimsical little fairy tale is one my littlest never tires of reading. Two children work hard and with a little bit of magical help overcome their difficulties. The last illustration makes this book worth it for me - sweet and kind!

This is a very simple tale of two children who are poor and have to go to a horrible orphanage. They are forced to work all day and have very little to eat. Eventually the two children realize that the sewing machine their mother left them, which was their only possession, was magic. The children of the orphanage wish for warm clothes and a giant balloon so they can escape. Ms. Schnaap, who runs the orphanage, finds them and falls in the basket tied to the giant balloon and floats off. This story, along with many folklore tales, has a classic good vs. evil theme, in which the good wins over the evil. I like the little twist in the ending illustration that shows Ms. Schnaap on a beach somewhere with a parrot.… (más)

There is never a dull moment if you have an imagination. Madison and her cat Caspar spotted a line and decided to follow it to see where it would take them. After having adventure after adventure the line took them right back to where they started.

Sacha and Olya are two orphans that try to scrape by rent with a sewing machine their mother left that (unbeknownst to them) is magical. One day, because they cannot make rent, they are sent off to an orphanage run by a terrible woman Miss Schnaap. She makes the children do hard work, rarely feeds them, and even locks them in a closet! One day, after wishing for some boots, the magical sewing machine makes them! Soon, the children wish for a giant balloon to take them away, but Miss Schnaap barges in an accidentally tips into the balloon and flies off, never to be seen again!

I really liked this book. I thought it was fun and entertaining and I think any child would love it! The illustrations are fun, too!
