There's just one problem with this book: "on a budget" is really subjective. So this book may or may not line up with what's in your budget. That being said I would still highly recommend it. It's well written and fairly easy to read and understand.

Chevy Big Blocks
How to build Max Performance on a Budget

Welcome to the world of Big Blocks. For many years, these were most sought after Chevy performance
motors. With today’s costs, it has gotten much harder to get performance out of any motor. Now Car
Tech and horsepower guru David Vizard have published a great book for the BUDGET MINDED builder.
Chapters include Displacement Decisions, Cylinder Heads, and Valvetrain Optimization along with a
chapter that has 9 big block builds and their Dyno results. The chapters on EFI and Exhaust include facts
and charts that can help with tuning and the difficult decision of what length Headers to use. All in all
this is a very informative book for the money and as usual has one of the best source guides published.
The guide includes the addresses, phone numbers and the web sites for all the sources included. This is
a very practical and helpful book.

This is another very well-illustrated book from CarTech. Not for beginners, but plenty of information to help you do your rebuild right.

My housemate, a former ASE certified master mechanic and a long time shade tree and professional engine builder tells me: "This book has great pictures. The photos are detailed, clear, big enough to be seen and they are informative. The text matches the photos- easy reading, clear and detailed enough to be informative so that anyone with some mechanical smarts and a decent toolbox could build anything from a big block grocery getter to a high performance big block Chevy." The process is laid out logically and explained chapter by chapter- rods, camshafts, seals, manifolds, cylinder heads, electronic fuel injectors or carburetors, valve trains, intake manifolds and exhausts - It's all here -clearly explained. At the end of the book, there are nine specific Chevy big block builds explained and their various advantages over a stock big block. As my housemate says, It's a good book."… (más)
