This volume is a look into the teaching of youth in the Puritan era. Vincent discusses the work of grace in the hearts of young men and women, and counsels them to remain steadfast in the "good work begun." He lists the travails which may beset them: falling away from grace, apostasy, worldliness, lusts. He warns the young people about the judgment of God, and teaches how glorious the grace they have received is.

It is a short book, and very easy to read. The editing of the work to remove antiquated language is very helpful. However, it should be noted that it does contain the typical Puritan style, which for some can mean an over-abundance of application. It is helpful to diagram the book, so as to know where you are in a Puritan's argument. This book is an excellent beginning point for this, because the applications are small in comparison to other, larger Puritan works.

All in all, this is a very good look at grace in the life of those who begin well, and a reminder to continue to run the race set before us.
