Dr. Villeneuve writes "Divine Marriage" to disseminate his life's work to a wider audience. In the preface, he writes of a joke he told while studying for his degree that writing a dissertation is a "close second" to marriage in terms of the commitment required. The quality of this work confirms that it is true. His command of religious texts, ability to draw together multiple themes into a cogent whole, and clear tone testify to his knowledge and bring the his life's work to a layperson's level. Villeneuve's knowledge makes for solid expertise throughout the book, but his true love for Scripture shows most in the chapters about Solomonic wisdom literature (especially the Song of Songs) and the Gospels (particularly John). In the epilogue, his studies in catechism show as he explains how the Bible's nuptial themes apply to current debates and questions of relationships and marriage.
