Bob Vanderberg grew up in Chicago's west suburbs ond attended his first White Sox game-a jarring ninth-inning loss to the Yankees-in 1954. He spent nearly 40 years on the Chicago Tribune's sports staff and is the author of five previous books, three of them on the White Sox.

Being a beat reporter's omnium-gatherum of anecdotes and oral history from the White Sox during the post-WWII years. It's interesting in parts, but presupposes a great deal of background knowledge since it isn't a linear history.
