The Meyers gazetteer is a fundamental finding-aid for locating where your German ancestors came from. But in typical, efficient German fashion, lots of information is packed into just a few dense volumes. Its Fraktur font isn't that difficult to read, but its entries are rather cryptic, using its own terse shorthand, dozens of abbreviations, and slight punctuation differences that drastically change meanings.
